Sabine’s Corner

Copenhagen Around The Corner

Dear WBT Masters Participants,

It’s happening! The grand finale of the 2022 World Bridge Tours is coming to Copenhagen. October 10-14 are the dates. I can hardly wait to see so many of our good friends in my favourite city in the whole wide world. We are going to have a ball! We will not only play bridge, we will also…..eat!

Copenhagen is widely known as a food mecca. Home of the current number 1 and 2 restaurants in the world and then some. If you were hoping to snatch a reservation at Noma or Geranium, there may be some depressing news for you. Noma will finish its current vegetarian season and close up shop on October 1st to open a pop-up at some place in the world they haven’t revealed yet. Geranium will still be here and if you are quick, you may be able to score a reservation. Just be aware that they have gone all vegetarian. You have been warned. 3.200 dkk for a parade of vegetables may seem a bit steep for some.

No reason to get depressed, because I have just the right remedy: my favourite restaurant in Copenhagen, Sushi Anaba, easily the best omakase in Scandinavia. The chef Mads Battefeld trained in Tokyo and now does Japanese miracles with Nordic ingredients. You can read a short review and see some pictures here https://andershusa.com/sushi-anaba-the-best-omakase-restaurant-in-scandinavia-copenhagen-denmark/

There are only 8 seats around the counter and a small tataki room with 4 seats. It is insanely hard to score a reservation. But don’t despair! I have talked to Mads and he has agreed to let us buy out the restaurant for his second seating on October 13th at 8 pm. The door to the tataki room can be opened, so there will be a feeling of togetherness for 12 lucky people. If there is overwhelming demand, I can try and see whether we can get a second night. The price tag? 1.700 dkk plus the drinks pairing, which can be sake, wine or juice.

Drop me an email to sabine.auken@gmail.com, if you are interested. First come, first served.

Looking forward to seeing you in Copenhagen!
